Forty five years ago the son of Teresa and James Amarante had a dream of becoming an eminent chef. Andrew attended the most prestigious school for it's time in downtown New Haven, The Culinary Institute of America. He graduated a proud novice and was determined to create a premier catering facility. Andrew's attempt to begin was small, it all started in the basement of his parents home. He was then able to establish a small but well known luncheonette in downtown New Haven and from that point on his business and reputation blossomed.

Spanning two generations, the Amarante family food establishment has now evolved from this small work space to the present day expansion of two banquet buildings and surrounding decks overlooking the most pristine water views of Long Island Sound in Connecticut. His parents were a big influence in his life and taught him that family values are what's most important. "We have always tried to make this seem like a family affair, Amarante says. I wish I could express the feeling that comes over me as I realize my wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and especially my parents have been a part of this effort. We try to make each event an extension of our own family." After retiring in 1997 Andrews' six grown children and several of his eighteen grandchildren keep the family tradition of hosting special events. Guests are always treated like family, with warmth and respect.

Amarante's Custom Catering today is truly successful, fifty years later!
